🌟 小学校の同窓会での約束が、ついに現実に！ / A Promise Fulfilled

ことの始まりは、5月末に開催された小学校の同窓会でした。
東京に住む一人の旧友に、私はこう声をかけたのです。
「そういえばお前、新しいお店（桜梅桃李）がオープンしたら行く行くって言ってて、まだ来てくれてないじゃないか（笑）」
すると彼は、「今度行くよ！絶対に行く！」と約束してくれたのですが……なんと本日、それが現実となりました！東京から自分で車を運転し、はるばる私に会いに来てくれたのです！

It all began at our elementary school reunion at the end of May. I said to an old friend from Tokyo, “Hey, you promised to visit my new store once it opened, but you haven’t shown up yet! (laughs)” He replied, “I’ll go next time! Absolutely!” And today, that promise came true! He drove all the way from Tokyo just to see me!
💡 宗教への固定観念を打ち破る対話 / Breaking Through Stereotypes

午前中からお店で様々なお互いの近況を語り合い、一緒にお昼ご飯を食べました。そして午後からは、いよいよ核心である「仏法（仏教）の話」へと対話が深まっていったのです。
実は世間一般の多くの方は、どうしても「宗教に対する固定観念」を持たれています。日蓮大聖人の仏法、そして創価学会の教えを、正しく知っている方はほとんどいません。他力本願な「お葬式や法事のための一般的な宗派」と混同されているケースが非常に多いのです。だからこそ私は、その「決定的な違い」を熱く、明快に語らせていただきました。

We spent the morning catching up and having lunch together. In the afternoon, our conversation naturally deepened into the core topic: Buddhism. Honestly, most people have rigid preconceptions about religion. Very few truly understand Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism or the Soka Gakkai teachings. They often confuse it with conventional, passive Buddhist sects centered on funerals. That is exactly why I passionately and clearly explained the definitive difference.

「私たちが『南無妙法蓮華経』と唱えること。これはね、ただ拝んでいるんじゃない。自分の人生を切り開くための『祈りという最高の行動』を起こしているんだよ」
さらに、以前わが家の孫が一緒にお題目をあげた時のエピソードを語りました。孫から「じいじ、なんでナンミョウやってるの？」と聞かれた時、私はこう答えたのです。
「自分の中にある潜在能力を爆発させて、スーパージイジ（スーパーじいさんの略）になるためなんだよ！」

この話をすると、旧友は「なるほど！」と深く納得し、身を乗り出して聞いてくれました。
「じゃあ、僕がイメージしていたお葬式の仏教とは全然違うんだね？」
「そう、全く違う！何が違うのか。それは、自分自身の無限の可能性をバーン！と引き出すために、この信仰（信心）をしているんだ。『自分を絶対に諦めない！』――これこそが、この信心の根本の精神なんだよ！」
私の言葉に、彼は「そうだったのか……！」と、仏法への理解を一歩、大きく深めてくれました。

“Chanting ‘Nam-myoho-renge-kyo’ is not passive worship. It is the ultimate action through prayer to forge your own destiny.” Hearing this, my friend leaned forward with great interest. “Wow, so it’s totally different from the funeral-focused Buddhism I imagined?” “Exactly! The difference is that we practice this faith to dynamicly unleash our limitless potential. ‘Never give up on yourself!’—This is the absolute core spirit of our practice!” At my words, he smiled and said, “I see… I had no idea!” taking a huge step forward in understanding.
🌤️ 最高の友情と、熱い「夜の部」へ！ / To the Passionate Evening Session!

午後3時を過ぎた頃には、妻が美味しいケーキを買って帰ってきてくれました。そこからは3人で賑やかに懇談タイム。旧友が妻に「今日は島に、素晴らしい仏法の話を教えてもらったんだよ！」と嬉しそうに語ってくれ、大いに盛り上がりました。
この後、いよいよ「夜の部（夕食会）」へと突入します！実は私たち2人とも、すでに「アルコールを卒業」しておりまして（笑）、「今夜はノンアルコールで熱く語り合おうか！」とワクワクしています。
日常の何気ない友情の交流の中にこそ、最高の人間教育と、生命を変革する対話があります。さあ、全力で楽しんでまいります！

Later, my wife brought home some delicious cake, and the three of us enjoyed a lively chat. My friend told her with a bright smile, “Shima taught me an amazing lesson about Buddhism today!” Next up is the “Evening Session” (dinner)! Interestingly, both of us have already “graduated from alcohol” (laughs), so we are excited to have a deep discussion over a sober, non-alcoholic dinner! Within these casual exchanges of friendship lies the finest humanistic education and life-transforming dialogues.
