Creating the future of the Soka Gakkai Buddhist altar — together with SGI members worldwide

SGI Butsudan Net is here to listen to YOUR voice.

SGI Butsudan Net was born from a single determination: to raise a great wave of daimoku across the entire world. It is far more than a place to find information about altars. It is a platform for co-creation — a space where fellow members, across every border and beyond every difference in circumstance, bring their wisdom together to shape what a Buddhist altar for the next generation can truly be.

Behind every altar is a person praying to transform their destiny. We believe that each person’s human revolution is a point of hope — not only for that person, but for their family, their community, and ultimately for peace throughout the world. Our work is to stand quietly and faithfully beside that prayer, wherever in the world it is offered.

And this is something we cannot do alone. The future of the Soka Gakkai Buddhist altar will be created by your voice. Whether you chant in New Zealand, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil, Hawaii, Hong Kong, or anywhere a fellow member raises daimoku, we want to hear what you need. This page is where that conversation begins.

About the Founder

📷 Founder portrait — coming soon
(Yukihiro Shima with the English paperback editions)

As a human revolutionary. Yukihiro Shima chants ten thousand daimoku every morning. Having already reached ten million, he continues, day by day, toward one hundred million — living proof, offered to fellow members everywhere. He shares this practice each morning on his YouTube channel. ▶ Watch the daily daimoku on YouTube

As a butsudan revolutionary. For 44 years, since 1982, he has devoted himself to one thing alone. He is the founder of Oubaitori.com — Japan’s only specialist in Soka Gakkai Buddhist altars — and the inventor of the Kokū Zushi, the world’s only altar designed for the practice of daimoku.

The Kokū Zushi — an Altar Made for Daimoku

The Kokū Zushi is the world’s only Buddhist altar designed around a single purpose: the practice of daimoku.

In the Lotus Sutra, the Ceremony in the Air (Kokū-e) is the very scene in which Nam-myoho-renge-kyo — the Gohonzon — is revealed. The Kokū Zushi is designed so that daimoku rises from the Gohonzon of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo enshrined at the very heart of the altar: its inner space is refined into a stage that expresses that Ceremony in the Air to its fullest. Invented by Yukihiro Shima, it is the fruit of his own determination — chanting ten thousand daimoku each morning — brought together with his more than four decades of running a specialist store for Soka Gakkai Buddhist altars.

Each one is made with care, by hand, in the workshop of a traditional master craftsman who is a fellow Soka Gakkai member. It carries the registered trademark “Butsudan Revolution — Kokū Zushi,” and it can be delivered to fellow members anywhere in the world.

Delivering to Fellow Members, Wherever You Are

SGI members practice in 192 countries and territories — and wherever you are, we would be honored to bring a Buddhist altar to your home. We have already delivered altars overseas, from the United States to the Netherlands, and more journeys are on their way even now.

Because orders from abroad reach us through an international shipping service, we are often not able to see who you are or exactly where you are. So we ask one small, warm thing: before you place an order, please say hello to us on LINE first.

When we can connect with you directly — even just once — we can make sure the right altar reaches the right person, with care, and answer anything you are unsure about along the way. It is the surest path to an altar you will treasure, and to a bond between us that lasts.
