Good morning. This morning, one of my grandchildren came to visit, and we chanted together—three recitations of the Daimoku. Every day, there’s news from around the world. Life brings so many different experiences. Yet something becomes clear—what truly matters most.

A Morning to Remember—Three Chants With Grandchildren

This morning, my younger daughter and son-in-law came by with their grandchild. And then—my store manager and eldest son walked in, calling out “Grandma!” full of energy. “Let’s chant together before we begin our day,” I said. And they all said yes. So the four of us chanted the Daimoku together—”Nam-myoho-renge-kyo…” It went beautifully. Watching their sincere, open hearts, my own heart becomes clear.

Not Obligation—But a Choice to Live Your Best Life

People sometimes ask, “Yukihiro, why do you chant 10,000 times every day?”

The answer is simple: I’m not doing it out of duty. I’m doing it because I want my life—my own life—to become richer, truer, more alive.

The moment it becomes obligation, it stops being daimoku. I’m blessed to do what I truly wish to do. And I want my grandchildren to witness this: grandparents who stand firm, who challenge, who live with sincerity. That’s what my wife and I want to show them.

Your Heart Is the Most Precious Thing

I watch the world today, and I see something: everything is being reduced to money. Convenience. Efficiency. Money solves most of life’s problems—yes, I know that. Eighty percent, I’d say.

But the most precious things can’t be bought. They live in your heart.

What do we truly leave our children? A vital spirit. Energy. Honesty. The willingness to work. The courage to try. In short—faith. A grandparent must show these things by the way they live—not by words, but by example.

This morning, chanting alongside my grandchildren, I felt it again. Grandchildren learn not from what we tell them—they learn from how we live.
