This book is the record of one year — beginning at age 66 — in which I chanted ten thousand daimoku every single day, in pursuit of a vow to chant ten million over three years. In the midst of that struggle, the Kokū Zushi — an altar designed to make you want to chant — was born. It is an honest account of proof through prayer, and the story of my own human revolution after forty years of running a Soka Gakkai altar store on the edge of bankruptcy.

New Zealand, Germany, the United Kingdom, Hawaii, Hong Kong — as I wrote, the faces of fellow members in every country we have sent altars to came to mind again and again. Across language and borders, there are companions chanting daimoku to the same Gohonzon. Nothing would make me happier than for this book to support your own practice. As a disciple of Sensei, I wish to leave this proof for descendants a thousand years from now. The daimoku I kept chanting with that vow has now become this single book.
