Good morning. Are you well today? This is Shima, of Oubaitori.com. Morning Daimoku, day 1,156.
It was September of last year. In a recorded message from Sensei, there was a passage of guidance on the prayer for transforming one’s life. It appeared in the newspaper, and I typed it out and printed it onto a single sheet of A4 paper.
A Single Sheet of Paper, One Year Ago
That was a year ago. Since then I have prayed with that page every morning, during my daimoku.
The same lines, again and again, every single day. Some mornings I skip a part. Some mornings I pray only that one part. Some mornings I go through the whole thing. It is strange, and it is interesting.
Life Is a Wilful Thing
You would think I could simply pray it straight through, from the first line to the last. But the freedom in my own heart, and the looseness in it, and the part of me that does as it pleases — that shows up here too.
To Pray for Health and Long Life
Then this morning, the very first line: to pray for health and long life. I felt that Sensei has been sending daimoku to me. And I felt, at the same time, that I am the one sending daimoku to my own life — praying for its health, and for its long life.
That moved me today. Health and long life: I must have them. It settled into me.
Let’s Daimoku! I look forward to this day with you.
