I woke up at three o’clock this morning. Wide awake — and glad of it.
A Door Opens, Then Another
This is what chanting has shown me lately. A door opens. I can see the way forward. I take a step through it — and just past that door, another one appears. Not all at once. One at a time, as far as I can walk.
What the Gosho Confirms
Nichiren Daishonin writes: “The benefits of chanting the five characters of Myoho-Renge-Kyo are tremendous” (On Chanting the Daimoku of the Lotus Sutra).
I am not writing this to claim I understand that benefit. I am writing it because this morning, at three o’clock, wide awake and glad, I felt one small piece of it. That is enough reason to keep chanting tomorrow.
