Good morning. This is Yukihiro Shima from Oubaitori.com. This morning, too, I chanted 10,000 Daimoku. Yesterday, something happened in our family that I can only call a miracle: a birthday celebration for my father, who turned 95. Let me share that day with you.

It all started with one sentence from a grandchild: “If my great-grandfather is still alive, I want to meet him.” A child’s honest, straightforward wish. From that single line, everything began to move. Our daughters, our grandchildren, my wife and I — the whole family decided to travel to my father’s home. Most of the grandchildren had never met him.

The day was far from smooth. One grandchild was not feeling well, and everyone’s arrival time was different, so in the end we traveled in three separate groups. To be honest, there had been difficult things over the years — between my father and me, and between my father and my wife. Yet we overcame them one by one, and yesterday the 95th birthday celebration was held. It was a warm, laughter-filled day, and I can only call it a great success.

At the very end, my father led the chanting, and the whole family chanted Daimoku together. And there he was — my 95-year-old father, weeping as he chanted, his voice rising among the voices of his family. Four generations, chanting the same Nam-myoho-renge-kyo in one room. I will never forget that scene.

When you live with Daimoku as your foundation, things you once thought impossible in this lifetime take shape, one after another. Our family’s faith is being handed on to the next generation — that history was carved yesterday. Daimoku calls forth miracles. Let’s cherish this day, with Daimoku as our foundation. Let’s Daimoku!
