Good morning. This is Yukihiro Shima, from Oubaitori.com. It’s Sunday — and I’ll be honest, I overslept by about thirty minutes. But that extra time turned into something good. I stretched slowly, let the blood move through my whole body, caught my breath, and then began my usual morning gongyo and daimoku.
Every day looks the same — and every day is different
Watching me chant each morning, you might think: isn’t this the same thing, over and over? It isn’t. Not one day is the same. The reason is simple. I take on something new every day. The man I was yesterday and the man I am today are not quite the same person. So even with the same gongyo, the same daimoku, the life I bring to it is different.
Because the axis holds, I can change without limit
“Different every day” does not mean I waver. The opposite is true. My axis — Nam-myoho-renge-kyo — is set. Firm. Unshakable. Because that one point holds, I can take on something new every single day. Without an axis, change is only confusion. But with the Gohonzon as that one unshakable point, the change itself becomes forward motion. That is why I say, without hesitation: a new morning is the start of a new life.
Living each day as a whole lifetime
Morning gongyo is, in a way, setting up my life for the day. How will I live this one day? As I chant, I put my life in order. I make it clear. I wash away what clouded it. Only when it is clear do I step forward — for my family, for every fellow member in our community, and for kosen-rufu across the world. To live one day as a whole lifetime — a morning met with that resolve is something to be grateful for.
With daimoku as the foundation, let us change our karma and keep walking the drama of our human revolution, one step at a time. Let’s walk it together today. Have a wonderful day.
