Morning Daimoku #1,190 — When You Say “What?!”, a Wave of Change Is Coming

Good morning. I hope you’re doing well today. This is Shima from Oubaitori. This is the Morning Daimoku — 10,000 Daimoku a Day journal, entry #1,190.

Sometimes things happen that make you think, “Why on earth did this happen?” Today I’d like to talk a little about that.

After the “What?!”

Yesterday, around 7 p.m., something happened that made me go, “What?!”

Things like that do happen, don’t they? How do you react in a moment like that? “Whaaat?!”

Up to that point, we’re all the same.

It’s what comes next that makes the difference. Some people go, “Oh no…” and sink. Others say “Whoa!” — and instead of going down, they rise.

Everything Has Meaning

When you’ve been chanting daimoku, you come to see it this way: whatever happens, wrapped in the light of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, has meaning — all of it.

“What could this possibly mean? Isn’t it just something bad?” — we often think that, don’t we?

How you turn it into a plus — that is your faith. And flipping a minus into a plus, just like that — that, they say, is what transforming one’s destiny means.

When You Say “What?!”, a Wave of Change Is Coming

Every day, in gongyo, we pray for our own human revolution and for transforming our destiny. We pray for it in our silent prayers.

So those chances come to us every single day.

And every now and then, there’s a “What?!” moment. Last night, I took it this way: in that very moment, a great wave of transforming destiny may be coming in.

Everything has meaning. So what does this mean? Asking myself that, I came to understand: whatever happens, I will transform my destiny. This isn’t the same current as before. When a different current arrives — how will I receive it? That’s what it comes down to.

A State of Absolute Happiness — Whatever Happens, It’s All Right

So there’s no cloud hanging over me.

I feel completely clear.

Because this is a state of absolute happiness. Whatever happens, it’s all right.

Let’s Daimoku!

Have a wonderful day.

Today’s Question

When a “What?!” moment comes, how do you take it?

Bloom your own way, at your very best.
