I woke a little earlier today

I woke a little earlier today, and chanted with a clear mind.

A new determination for myself. Renewed each day — that is the feeling I wake with every morning. A light stretch, then before the Gohonzon. The freshness in my own heart carries straight into the Gohonzon. That is my conviction.

A visitor came by yesterday

Yesterday too, I fought right to the very end over how to carry out my own work.

A visitor also came to the shop yesterday, and we spoke about how things stand for each of us now. He said that once you reach a certain age, once you grow older, the will and the energy drop away across the board. Retired now, dental treatment to see to — and little by little it settles into a kind of “well, that’s how it is.”

Chanting at the root, raising life force

For us, it begins with Daimoku at the root, raising our own life force first.

As we chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, it is as the passage says — naturally we reach the world of Buddhahood. Life force rises up on its own.

Whether we chant Daimoku, or we do not. And then, on top of that, what we pray for, or do not pray for. Same age, same generation, much the same circumstances — and yet the lives change and keep changing. Talking it through, I understood that.

The comparison is with yourself

The comparison is with yourself. From other people, the question is what we learn.

Let’s Daimoku! Thank you, and here’s to today.
