Protect Yourself First — A Typhoon Morning, and the Decision to Turn Destiny (Morning Daimoku #1,126)

Morning Daimoku, entry #1,126.

Today, a typhoon may make landfall here in Ibaraki. And the path is unusual. Normally, typhoons come ashore from Chiba. This one is coming from Ibaraki, then heading diagonally west — toward Tottori. Has this ever happened before?

We could call it a coincidence. But it does not feel like one. So on a morning like this, let us take care of one another.

Protect Yourself First — This Is Where It Starts

Only you can protect yourself. This is not “as long as I am safe, that is enough.” It is the other way around. If we cannot first protect ourselves, we cannot protect the people in front of us. That would be the most painful thing.

So we chant. We chant. We pray. And we decide to put our own life in order first. Everything begins from that decision.

If You Are Alive, You Can Turn It Around

Right now, there may be hard things. “I am giving it everything, and nothing changes.” Some mornings feel like that.

But one fact remains. You are alive today. If you are alive, then you can decide — from here, I will turn this around. And if you live one day at a time with that decision, you will walk that life. This much is certain.

Everything Begins with the Decision

Whether we decide, or not. That is what it comes down to.

On a typhoon morning, or any morning, this vow does not change. First, protect yourself, so that you can protect the person in front of you. Then decide to turn everything toward victory, and walk today.

Let’s Daimoku! May today too be a day of absolute victory. Thank you, always.
