Morning Daimoku #1,185 — Know Your Best, Keep Your Average

Good morning. I hope you are all well today. This is Shima from Oubaitori. This is entry #1,185 of my Morning Daimoku — 10,000 Daimoku a Day journal.

My Best Hours: From 5 a.m. to Early Afternoon

Lately, I have found that my energy is at its best from around 5 in the morning until about noon. If I stretch it, perhaps until 1 or 2 in the afternoon. From around 3 o’clock, it drops sharply, all at once, and after that it is very hard to bring it back up.

When I repeat that vicious cycle, my efficiency the next day gets worse and worse. Now that I understand this balance, I am working every day to find just the right amount of work for one day.

Know Your Best, Keep Your Average

How about you? How can we keep our physical condition at its best? I think that is the most important thing.

Know your best, and keep your average.

Even when I feel, “This is going well,” going any further becomes risky. So I stop there, and continue the next day, and the next. These days, I feel that being able to go forward in my best condition every day is what matters most.

When Poor Health Lingers

When fatigue builds up too much, poor health now tends to linger. I do not see this as giving up. I see it as my body’s natural, honest condition.

In three more months, I will turn 70. It seems I am entering a new phase in how I take care of my own health.

Since October began, I have been unwell for about a week. Even now, I am not sure whether it is simply the level of fatigue or actual illness.

Praying for Health and Long Life — Not Psyching Up, but Resolve

I pray to live a long and healthy life. It is precisely at times like this that I want to go forward with daimoku as my foundation, with the resolve to say, “I will do it again today.”

It’s not about psyching myself up.
It’s about resolve. That is how I feel.

Let’s Daimoku! Thank you for being with me again today.

Bloom your own way, at your very best.
