This morning, as always, I was chanting Daimoku when my grandchildren woke up — one, two, three of them.
One by one, down the stairs
They come down from the second floor, one by one. “Whose footsteps are these? Whose?” I wonder. I call out, “Good morning.” “Good morning,” they call back. I am tasting this happy time — right now.
It is summer holidays. All day, it is a demanding situation. In my case, I work — and I step into that chaos only in between. The struggle of mothers around the world is beyond what I can imagine. I feel a little sorry that I get only the sweet part.
My daughter has become a wonderful mother
Still — grandchildren are precious. And the daughter who takes care of them — she has become a wonderful mother. That is what I feel.
I too will not be outdone. As a Super-Grandpa, with Daimoku at the root, I want my daughters to see this life of mine — all of it. I want them to feel, for themselves, the wonder of this faith. Day after day, I write this drama, chapter after chapter.
This is my greatest reason to live
This is my greatest reason to live. It is not “trying hard.” It is my reason to live.
My wife and I met. And now — a drama of human revolution reaching seven grandchildren, here, now. In this final stretch of life, still summoning the spirit of refusing to be defeated, still challenging myself day after day. With all of this — I am content.
