Yesterday the grandchildren all went home. Our entrance had been overflowing with their shoes. Now the shoes are gone.
An entrance with no shoes in it
While they were here it was loud. At the peak of it, I honestly thought: enough, please. Then every one of them was gone, and instead came “oh…”. Morning Daimoku time comes, and nobody comes down from upstairs. There is no one to say good morning to.
The human heart really does change from moment to moment. I experienced that again.
“Thank you for meeting him”
As they were leaving yesterday, I thanked them. Thank you for coming. Thank you for meeting your Jiji’s Jiji. Thank you for asking him all those questions. Come again. Stay well. And we parted.
There is a meeting, and there is a parting. So then — what was I able to pass on to those children? Over this one week, could I show them my own way of living and stand behind it? That is what I have been asking myself.
I am grateful to say there is almost nothing I regret. I did what I set out to do. In the end, how I live is graded by me, against me, and I am the one who marks it.
In the end, it is me against me
And now August is nearly over. This last week — how much value can I create in it, how much further can I grow? One step at a time, toward my own assignment.
Nobody is watching. Nobody was watching in the first place. But I am the one who always does what has to be done. In the end, it is me against me. Whether I can be satisfied with myself. That is all of it.
All the way through: 10,000 Daimoku every morning, polishing this life, polishing it again, raising the antenna, raising the radar, and making these days days of value creation.
