Good morning. Are you well today? Bloom your own way, at your very best. This is Yukihiro Shima, from Oubaitori.com — chanting 10,000 Daimoku each morning.
Today — for the first time — my grandchild woke up before me.
My grandchild woke up first
Usually, Jiiji is already showing them his chanting posture. Then the grandchildren come down. That is how it was yesterday, as I mentioned.
But today — a grandchild came first. Even Super-Jiiji gets tired sometimes. So I came down after the grandchild. We chatted a bit. Then, “All right, let me chant Daimoku now.” I began my gongyo. I chanted. I showed them that form. Around the time gongyo finished, grandchild number two came down. I showed him too. Then three. Then four. One after another.
The joint summer visit — day four
Right now — two of my daughters, four of my grandchildren. And one more daughter, with three more grandchildren on that side. This summer, my eldest and second daughters are visiting together. Today is day four.
Today is a day off from the shop. We are all going out. So it is a full day, from morning. Without the “Super,” I am just Jiiji, and I may end up worn out by evening. But it is a truly precious, precious time. So I want to be present, seriously, in my own way.
Chanting for world peace — with squabbles right beside me
We pray for world peace. And yet — just looking at these grandchildren of mine, there is no conflict among them. That is the reality. If anything, the boys — well, sometimes. What about at your house?
In that flow, Super-Jiiji is chanting Daimoku for world peace, and right beside him, the grandchildren are having little squabbles. This is the reality. This is where I show them the shape of this faith. Chant Daimoku, silently. And afterwards, encourage them. That is the action I take today too.
Let’s Daimoku! Thank you, and have a good day today.
