The Soul of Japanese Woodworking
Hello to our SGI members around the world. I am Yukihiro Shima from Oubaitori.com.
Today, I want to show you a hidden secret of Japanese craftsmanship. When we create a “Bespoke” (custom-made) altar, our master craftsmen do not use paper—they draw the blueprints directly onto a wooden board.

The “Moritsuke”: A life-size blueprint for global quality.
What is “Moritsuke”?
In modern times, most designs are made using computer software (CAD). However, a true Japanese master craftsman draws a 1:1 life-size blueprint on a wooden board. This is called “Moritsuke.”
Why “Moritsuke” ensures Global Quality:
- Precise Dimensions: By drawing in full scale, we ensure that every door movement and curve is perfect down to the millimeter.
- Visualizing 3D from 2D: Even for our customers in Hong Kong or Europe, this board allows us to finalize the complex design via Zoom with absolute clarity.
- A Legacy of Trust: This board is kept as a record of your altar’s unique DNA for future generations.
Behind every Oubaitori custom altar lies this spirit of dedication. We are committed to delivering the highest quality for your daily Daimoku practice, no matter where you are in the world.
